چکیده

Background Cine CMR is the gold standard for evaluation of left ventricular function with high spatial and temporal resolution of the EKG-gated acquisition. Measurements of dyssynchrony have previously been performed using myocardial tagging to measure relative delays in peak shortening of opposing walls. We aim to utilize non-tagged images to quantify dyssynchrony in clinical patients. This is performed by combining aortic valve timing information from a left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) image series with segmentations of short axis datasets.

Aortic valve timing is critical for accurate estimation of MRI-derived ejection fraction

Background We aim to investigate the effect of utilizing aortic valve timing in the measurement of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-derived ejection fraction (EF). Although CMR-derived left ventricular (LV) EF is the gold-standard for volumetric evaluation of the heart, it always reports higher values when compared to other modalities such as echocardiography and radionuclide ventriculography. ...

Quantitative assessment of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony using cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging: Inter-study reproducibility

OBJECTIVES To determine the inter-study reproducibility of left ventricular (LV) mechanical dyssynchrony measures based on standard cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine images. DESIGN Steady-state free precession (SSFP) LV short-axis stacks and three long-axes were acquired on the same day at three time points. Circumferential strain systolic dyssynchrony indexes (SDI), area-SDI as we...

Left ventricular synchrony, torsion, and recoil mechanics in Ebstein’s anomaly: insights from cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Disease progression and heart failure development in Ebstein's Anomaly (EA) of the tricuspid valve is characterized by both right and left ventricular (LV) deterioration. The mechanisms underlying LV dysfunction and their role in heart failure development are incompletely understood. We hypothesized that LV dyssynchrony and impaired torsion and recoil mechanics induced by paradoxical...

The association of global longitudinal and global circumferential strain with ejection fraction in patients with aortic stenosis and increased left ventricular mass: a feature tracking CMR study

Background Global longitudinal strain (GLS) and global circumferential strain (GCS) have emerged as important new markers of left ventricular (LV) function. Aortic stenosis (AS) creates pressure overload which produces LV hypertrophy and increased mass. Ejection fraction (EF) is the traditional parameter of LV systolic function, but the effects of increased LV mass on GLS and GCS are unclear. O...

Gargantuan pseudoaneurysm of the left ventricle.

Three months after combined mitral and aortic valve replacement, a 74-year-old woman presented with New York Heart Association grade II to III dyspnea. She had regular sinus tachycardia (109 bpm), and her blood pressure was 90/55 mm Hg. Routine echocardiography showed normal left ventricular ejection fraction and normal functional status of mitral and aortic valve prosthesis. However, late syst...
